TGC Celebrates International Education Week!

 (November 12- 18, 2013)

International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education aims to promote international understanding and build support for international educational exchange by encouraging the development of programs that prepare Americans to live and work in a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study in the United States.
For the last forty-five years IREX has contributed to global development efforts by supporting these goals, and providing programs that support international exchange of scholarly research, build youth capacity, train teachers and strengthen learning institutions. As a result, thousands of students, teachers and professionals from around the world have experienced education both within and outside the US; and returned home to improve their communities and strengthen ties between the countries.
In celebration of International Education Week, IREX is pleased to share a blog from one such teacher. Erica Schnee is a 2013 Alumna of the Teachers for Global Classrooms (TGC) Program, a year-long professional development opportunity for US middle and high school teachers aimed at globalizing teaching and learning in their classrooms. In her blog post Schnee, a high school Social Studies teacher, shares the lessons she learned about education outside the US during her international field experience in Brazil, as well as her thoughts on being a global citizen. http://eschnee.blogspot.com/2013/06/youre-inspiration-chicago.html

TGC is funded by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and implemented by IREX.
